David Niland Bookplate

In his will, David Niland, a former professor of Architecture at the University of Cincinnati, left his collection of books and journals to the Robert A. Deshon Library in DAAP. To commemorate his gift and service to the school, this bookplate design was adhered on the front of his books. Niland's personal designs were stark in their simplicity and use of white. In order to imitate the style of his work with paper, I designed this piece with embossing to call upon the 3-dimensionality of architecture. The use of Futura references Niland's interest in modern design, and the bold, clean text lines resemble his symmetrical techniques.
